Tia Carrere and other Lilo & Stitch performers have shared their uncensored opinions about the film's Hawaiian image.
During an exclusive interview with People Magazine, the actress underlined the significance of capturing organic authenticity by filming the narrative on location in Hawaii with local talent.
The Oahu-born actor told the magazine, "It's essential because it's about how you feel while you're there. And if it was lacking, you would have said, 'That doesn't sound [or seem] right.'"
Director Dean DeBlois sought realistic portrayal to keep true to the film's concept, and Tia Carrere quickly became a vocal supporter of Lilo & Stitch.
The 58-year-old went on to say, "That's why I was so excited when I first met these guys." We had supper, and I got to say, 'Hey, can I perform the bit in pidgin English?'"
The film debuted at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on May 17, 2025, and was released in the United States on Friday, May 23.
Despite unfavorable reviews, the picture earned $341.7 million, making it the sixth highest-grossing film of the year.
