Sony is discontinuing its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, which rewarded users for playing games and performing activities on the platform. The program is no longer admitting new members and will be phased out completely on November 2, 2026, according to the firm. Existing PlayStation Star members can earn digital items and points until July 23, 2025, after which all program advantages and incentives will be discontinued.
The PlayStation Stars program is ending
PlayStation Stars premiered in limited territories in 2022, providing gamers with digital collectibles. Sony stated that once the program's current iteration comes to an end, it will evaluate its findings.
"Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends," the firm wrote in a PlayStation Blog post Wednesday.
"Following this examination, we have decided to redirect our efforts and will discontinue the present edition of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to assess our important results from this initiative and are looking into methods to expand on these discoveries."
When does PlayStation Stars end?
While the loyalty program is no longer admitting new members, existing members can earn digital items, points, and level up their status until July 23, 2025, when all new PlayStation Stars campaigns, incentives, and privileges will be discontinued.
Current members can also continue to redeem their points as long as they do not expire before November 2, 2026, when the program will officially stop. However, if existing PlayStation Stars members terminate their subscription, they will be unable to rejoin the program and would forfeit all earned points, Sony stated. Earned digital collectibles, however, will remain available.
"We'd want to thank all of our gamers for their support since PlayStation Stars' introduction in 2022. As we look for new methods to enhance our loyalty program efforts in the future, we'll continue to recognize all of our gamers through the many community activities we've planned," Sony stated.
The PlayStation Stars program debuted in 2022 and needed an active PSN account to participate for free. The loyalty program awarded users for completing certain campaigns and activities on the PlayStation platform, such as playing a game or achieving particular trophies, and was available via the PlayStation App for iOS and Android.
Rewards included digital collectibles and loyalty points, which could be exchanged for PSN wallet dollars, digital collectibles, and certain PlayStation Store purchases.
Sony has already started various community activities for PlayStation users. Earlier this year, the firm introduced a single beta testing program for PS5, PC, and other PlayStation experiences.
