With The Last Concerts series, Barry Manilow has spoken openly about his choice to retire from performing.
The iconic singer claimed that he wanted to play live one more time while he was still healthy and strong at the age of 81, unlike many of his colleagues.
"There must be only a handful of people in my world that are still there," he told me. "I am still healthy. I'm strong, and I still have my voice and vitality.
The Looks Like We Made It singer also discussed the moment when he realized it was time to retire after a tremendous 50-year career.
"The night I can't nail the F natural on Even Now is the night I give up. "But I can still do it," he clarified.
Reflecting on his prime years and some of his fellow '70s and '80s music giants, Manilow told Billboard, "It's like 'What? Am I the only one remaining? It's Billy Joel, and Elton [John] is unwell, as are Rod [Stewart] and Neil [Diamond]. Diana Ross is still in fantastic form, I believe."
The Last Concerts tour will only visit a select places in the United States that have been particularly supportive of his music career spanning more than five decades.
Manilow's concerts in these cities will mark his final appearances.
