James Gunn is poised to release a new Superman film for comic book aficionados.
The highly anticipated David Corenswet film is due to be released in theaters worldwide on July 11.
While discussing the next superhero feature, Gunn claimed that he drew inspiration from a variety of television series, comic books, and films, including Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and previous Superman endeavors.
One of the more surprising influences was James' admission that he drew heavily on Japanese filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki's Godzilla Minus One.
He was motivated by the film's human beings rather than the Kaiju, or monster.
In an interview with Japanese media site Cinema Today, James explained, "I tried to fuse elements like giant monsters, robots, flying dogs, other superheroes..."
The 58-year-old also announced his plans to make a film.
"My goal is to make a film that depicts Godzilla like Godzilla Minus One, but also has a great human drama."
Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Isabela Merced, and Milly Alcock also star in the upcoming film Superman.
