Taylor Swift has sparked a stir among admirers after revealing that she had purchased back her masters.
The Swifties' chats, however, resurrected an apparently ancient chapter in the pop superstar's life: her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
Alwyn and the 14-time Grammy winner dated for six years, starting while she was involved in controversy with Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, and Scooter Braun.
Swift explicitly said that there would be no Reputation, writing in her letter, "I haven't even re-recorded a quarter of it," and added that she kept "hitting a stopping point" every time she attempted.
The Anti-Hero hitmaker said, "To be perfectly honest, it's the one album in those first six that I thought couldn't be improved by redoing it."
Fans speculated that Swift's sentiments of a burgeoning romance with Alwyn, which she discussed in the original 2017 album, could not be replicated.
Swifties rushed to X. One wrote: "I was literally thinking this it was just such a time of her life and now that shes with Travis I don't feel like she can re-record these like she could have if she was with Joe still so I think that keeping og rep was the best option."
Another commented, "It's a love album, and Joe had such an effect that his reputation can't be rewritten today. "The relationship was legendary."
"I believe she may not be fully over him, and who can blame her? They were in a relationship for seven years, and he was there for her when no one else was, so it must have hurt a lot," added a third.
One Swiftie also speculated that this "explains why it was the last one on the re-record list."
