Tom Cruise has once again shown himself as a maestro of death-defying stunts in his films.
In the newest Mission: Impossible film, Cruise's character, Ethan Hunt, does a thrilling stunt in which he jumps from a wrecked airplane and releases a parachute that catches fire.
What's even more astounding is that Cruise did this stunt practically, without the use of CGI.
According to Guinness World Records, Cruise established a record for "the most burning parachute jumps by an individual" after doing the feat 16 times.
Cruise performed the feat by leaping from a helicopter at 7,500 feet in Drakensberg, South Africa, with a fuel-soaked main parachute designed to catch fire.
In a video, Cruise describes the hazards of the stunt, saying, "What I'm going to do is I'm going to deploy... If this is twisted while it is burning, I will spin and burn. I need to kick out of the twist and then ignite. "I have 10 seconds."
The stunt took accuracy and talent, and Cruise's ability to pull it off demonstrates his commitment to his profession.
Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, lauded Cruise's record-breaking feat, stating, "Tom is no stranger to setting records. Throughout his amazingly long and continuous career, he has established himself as the most powerful actor in Hollywood and the most bankable celebrity."
