Prince Harry and Meghan Markle look to be next on the chopping block as the couple's huge fortune is scrutinized.
Since leaving their high royal jobs in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have received a lot of attention for their financial situation. Soon after their transfer, they signed a multimillion-dollar contract with Netflix, among other attractive offers.
While the Sussexes have been scrutinized for their lavish lifestyle, from their huge Montecito house to travels on private aircraft, their taxes have never been a big point of contention.
However, they have come under criticism after Kensington Palace acknowledged that Prince William pays the highest rate of income tax on his own estate, the Duchy of Cornwall, but did not reveal the amount.
Royal analysts say that if William must report his taxes, the same requirement should apply to Prince Harry and Meghan, especially because the Duke received a large income from the late Queen Mother.
"It's an uncomfortable conversation that I think is completely unnecessary," broadcaster Esther Okraku remarked on The Sun podcast. "I think if you're going to have those conversations, then you might as well have them about Harry as well, he inherited, what, £10 million from the late Queen Mother."
Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson stated that everything has been "very secretive" and that no one knows the "exact figures".
"Exactly, but why is no one asking [Harry]?" Esther argued. "I mean, he and his upstart wife may not have earned that money by any way. Why don't we criticise them? "Because it's just unpleasant."
She went on: "And I think we should extend the same courtesy to William."
