King Charles and Queen Camilla attended an emotional event honoring a prominent royal person.
The monarchs, who are presently in Scotland, presented a special memorial stone dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth II at a private ceremony to commemorate her "life of commitment and service to others."
Following the event on Wednesday, Buckingham Palace issued an update, in which the King and Queen were noticeably somber for the sorrowful occasion.
"Today, the King and Queen unveiled a Memorial Stone dedicated to the late Queen Elizabeth II at St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh," King Charles' Office said in a statement released with highlights.
"Her late Majesty's deep affection for Scotland and its people was well-known, in particular her love of the Scottish Highlands," according to the article. "St Giles' Cathedral was the Queen's final resting place in Scotland, and where thousands queued to pay their respects."
The service was led by Rev Dr Scott Rennie, and the black slate stone, which displays the Scottish Crown and the ER cypher beside the dates, was unveiled at the location where Elizabeth's coffin lay-in-state for two days before being transferred to London.
Elizabeth died in September 2022 at her Scottish estate, Balmoral Castle.
