Prince William, Cristiano Ronaldo, and other football players and fans are extremely devastated by the unfortunate deaths of Liverpool and Portugal midfielder Diogo Jota and his brother, who were killed in a vehicle accident in Spain on Thursday.
Cristiano Ronaldo thinks the departure of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva "doesn't make any sense".
"Just now we were together in the national team, and just now you got married," Ronaldo, his country's captain, said on Instagram.
Future monarch Prince William also delivered a sorrowful statement to lament the pair's unexpected deaths, saying: "As a member of the football family, I am extremely grieved to learn of Diogo Jota and his brother's demise. "Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who knew him.
Liverpool veteran Sir Kenny Dalglish also paid respect to Diogo Jota and his brother, saying, "Football is not important" in the wake of such a "devastating loss."
In a statement on X, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said, "They will both be sorely missed by all those who knew them and by the global football community." May they rest peacefully."
Diogo Jota, 28, has three children with his wife, whom he married last month. He was a key player in Liverpool's last title-winning season, scoring six goals and giving four assists in 26 games. He won three major championships with the Reds and two Nations League crowns with Portugal.
The event occurred near the village of Cernadilla in Zamora, northwest Spain.
Spain's Guardia Civil stated the collision was most likely caused by a "burst tire while overtaking." The car, which Spanish media stated was a Lamborghini, caught fire, killing both passengers.
According to rumors, Jota was advised against flying due to a minor operation and was driving back to England to catch the ferry in time for pre-season training to begin. Liverpool FC will resume pre-season training on Monday, with their first encounter scheduled for Sunday, July 13 against Preston North End.
