Paul Rudd struggled to get in shape for his forthcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rudd told Men's Health in a March 2023 cover story that the exercise routine for his part as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, was more gruelling than he remembered the preparation being for his 2018 sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp.
"I worked so hard to get back into shape for Quantumania, and I realised, 'Oh, my God, this is much much more difficult than it was [for Ant-Man and the Wasp]," Rudd explained. "I had fallen off more than I had previously. My clothing were suddenly too small. 'God, this stinks,' I thought. I can't even put these jeans on.'"
He went on, "So I'd tell myself, 'Well, I might as well eat some of these cookies.'" I felt annoyed and self-conscious. I was simply not in a good mood. "I was pretty hard on myself."
Rudd, on the other hand, recognised his commitment and work ethic as crucial factors in reaching his fitness objective.
"I can be hyper-focused if I have a purpose," Rudd explained. "If I'm shooting one of these movies, and I know that in four months, I have to do a shirtless scene, I'm very dialled in. I also strive to strike a happy middle. I could work out and eat well and yet look worse than the majority of the other Avengers."
Although he started working out for his newest part, Rudd says he's realised that his current training programme is necessary to keep up for any purpose.
"The exercise I do today has less to do with the fact that I might have to do another Marvel movie or a magazine photo and more to do with the fact that I've finally realised that if you make fitness a part of your lifestyle, you'll just feel wonderful."
